MADRID 2 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Thousands of followers of the ousted South Korean president Yoon Suk Yeol gathered this Wednesday in front of his home in Seoul to protest against his imminent arrest as part of the investigation for alleged insurrection and abuse of power as a result of the controversial martial law.
The security forces, who have launched a security device in the vicinity of the property, have begun to disperse those present as disturbances occur in the area, to which some 11,000 people have moved, according to police estimates. .
Yoon, for his part, has so far avoided being arrested, although the Police have another four days to enforce the court order against the former president.
At around 12:20 (local time) around thirty protesters managed to jump the police cordon and advance towards the main door of the presidential residence, where they staged a sit-in.
The Police, who have indicated that several people have been arrested and are in custody, have accused Yoon of “entrenching himself” to prevent the entry of vehicles, as reported by the Yonhap news agency. Thus, he has threatened to “proceed to launch dispersion procedures” to quell the protests.
The protesters, on the other hand, have claimed that martial law was announced legally and assure that the impeachment process against Yoon – which is awaiting ratification by the Constitutional Court – is invalid.
On Wednesday, Yoon thanked his fans for the support shown over the past few days. “Thank you for protecting the constitutional order of this liberal democracy,” he said.
