MADRID 18 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The president-elect of the United States, Donald Trump, has appointed this Sunday the Republican commissioner of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Brendan Carr as “permanent” president of this agency that regulates radio, television, telephone, satellite and cable communications. , and who has publicly positioned himself against the social network TikTok.
“I am pleased to announce that Commissioner Brendan Carr will be Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Commissioner Carr is currently the highest-ranking Republican on the FCC,” he announced on his Truth Social platform account.
The magnate has highlighted Carr that he is a “freedom of expression warrior and has fought against the regulatory legal war that has stifled Americans’ freedoms and slowed down (their) economy.”
“It will end the regulatory onslaught that has been crippling America’s job creators and innovators, and ensure that the FCC acts on behalf of rural America,” the Republican said.
“Thank you, President Trump! I am humbled and honored to serve as chairman of the FCC. Now we get to work,” the commissioner responded on his X social network account.
Carr has been a member of the FCC for the past five years since Trump nominated him at the beginning of his first term in 2017 and has been unanimously confirmed by the US Senate on three occasions, although his relationship with the body dates back to the year 2012 when he started working as an advisor to the then president, Ajit Pai.
As commissioner of the organization, he has publicly positioned himself against TikTok, warning that it is not “just another video application”, but rather that it collects swaths of confidential data to which it accesses. He has also insisted that it should be removed from the Apple and Google application stores.
Doctor of Law Cum Laude from the Catholic University of America, he has worked as a lawyer specializing in appeals, litigation and regulatory matters.
Carr’s appointment thus adds to the positions announced in recent days by the president-elect for his new cabinet, with that of his campaign spokesperson, Steven Cheung, being one of the most notable. Thus, the one who was director of strategic response during Trump’s first term will be part of the next US Administration as Director of Communications of the White House.
Before working on the Republican’s first campaign, Cheung was a spokesperson for the Ultimate Fighting Championship, the most famous mixed martial arts championship in the world. The company maintains strong ties with Trump since he usually attends UFC fights and its president, Dana White, is an “old friend,” according to the American network CNN.
