MADRID 17 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The president-elect of the United States (USA), Donald Trump, has appointed this Saturday his campaign donor and defender of ‘fracking’ – extraction of hydrocarbons by hydraulic fracturing – Chris Wright as Secretary of Energy for the Government of the Republican magnate , who will take power on January 20.
“I am delighted to announce that Chris Wright will join my Administration as US Secretary of Energy and a member of the newly created National Energy Council,” Trump said in a statement, adding that Wright “has been a leading technologist and entrepreneur in the energy sector.
The Republican has defended that the next secretary “was one of the pioneers who helped launch the American shale revolution that boosted American energy independence and transformed the global energy system.”
“As Secretary of Energy, Chris will be a key leader who will drive innovation, reduce bureaucracy and usher in a new golden age of American prosperity and global peace,” he stressed.
“TECH NERD TURNED BUSINESSMAN”
“Wright, a self-proclaimed technology nerd turned entrepreneur, is the founder, CEO and president of Liberty Energy,” Trump detailed.
Likewise, he highlighted his “passion for bringing the benefits of energy to all communities in the world”: “This passion has inspired him to develop a career in the energy sector, working not only in oil and gas, but also in energy nuclear, solar and geothermal”.
According to Trump, Wright will bring “rational thinking to the energy dialogue.”
Liberty Energy, the company founded by Wright, is a Denver-based hydro billing company. According to the US network CNN, Wright has acknowledged the link between the burning of fossil fuels and climate change, but has expressed doubts about whether the latter is linked to worsening extreme weather conditions.
