MADRID 23 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The president-elect of the United States, Donald Trump, nominated this Friday the former NFL (National Football League) player and former member of the Government in the magnate’s first term, Scott Turner, as Secretary of Housing and Urban Development.
“Scott is an NFL veteran who, during my first term, served as the first executive director of the White House Opportunity and Revitalization Council (WHORC), helping to lead an unprecedented effort that transformed the most disadvantaged communities in our country,” Trump said on his Truth Social social network account, which he himself promulgated.
The mogul has praised Turner’s work in that position, where he oversaw “16 federal agencies that implemented more than 200 policy actions that promoted economic development.”
“Scott will work alongside me to make America great again for ALL Americans,” he emphasized.
Turner is the first African American so far nominated for a position in the Trump Administration. If approved by the Senate, he would head a department responsible for coordinating national policy that addresses the country’s housing needs, including programs to boost affordable housing or provide assistance to low-income Americans.
Turner played in the NFL for nine seasons with Washington, San Diego and Denver, later serving in the Texas House of Representatives.
