The new US ambassador to Spain, Benjamín León – LEON MEDICAL CENTERS
MADRID 3 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The president-elect of the United States, Donald Trump, has proposed the appointment of businessman Benjamín León Jr., born in Cuba, as the next ambassador to Spain, a position that is currently vacant due to the premature withdrawal of the previous representative, Julissa Reynoso.
“He came to the United States from communist Cuba when he was 16 years old, with only five dollars in his pocket, and managed to turn his company, Leon Medical Centers, into an incredible business,” Trump has highlighted on social networks to praise the virtues of his candidate. He has also applauded his philanthropic work, always linked to the health field.
León, 80 years old, must still receive the approval of the Senate, without there being a predetermined calendar for this type of procedure. The Upper House will first have as a priority resolving the confirmation of Trump’s first political line, who will take office again as president on January 20.
Already in his first stage in the White House, the Republican magnate had turned to a person from the business world, Duke Buchan, to represent the interests of the United States before Spain and Andorra.
The most recent precedent at the Embassy, however, is that of Julissa Reynoso, proposed by the current North American president, Democrat Joe Biden, and who in June announced her resignation from the position to resume her work activity in the United States. As a result of this departure, the leadership of the delegation fell to the charge d’affaires, Rian Harris.
