MADRID 1 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –
A team of American investigators, including representatives of aircraft manufacturer Boeing, examined this Wednesday the site of the plane crash that killed 179 people in South Korea.
Of the 181 people who were on board the Boeing 737-800 of the South Korean low-cost airline Jeju Air, all but two died last Sunday in the vehicle accident.
After detecting an engine problem, the plane’s pilots received a bird strike warning from the ground control center and issued a distress signal.
However, at this time it is believed that problems deploying the landing gear were the main cause of the accident.
The South Korean government has begun safety inspections of the 101 Boeing 737-800s it has in the country. The Ministry of Transportation has assured in a statement that authorities are also examining maintenance and operation records during five days of safety inspections that will last until Friday.
For his part, the president of Jeju Air, Kim E-bae, has announced in recent hours that the company will incorporate more maintenance workers and reduce flight operations between 10% and 15% until March as part of the efforts to improve the safety of air operations.
