The Venezuelan Parliament approved this Thursday a law “against the imperialist blockade” that punishes with permanent political disqualification, among other provisions, those people who request or support the imposition of foreign sanctions against the country.
The law, approved unanimously by the National Assembly, establishes lifelong political disqualification for people who “help and ally with foreign agents to impose unilateral coercive measures on the” Venezuelan people, reports Venezuelan public television VTV.
In particular, the ‘Liberator Simón Bolívar Law’ seeks to punish “all those who promote, participate, disseminate or advocate the application of sanctions against the country”, which “will be an aggravating factor in the crime of treason.” .
In addition, the ‘Domain Extension Law’ contemplates the “confiscation of assets” that these people have in the Latin American country.
The Venezuelan Prosecutor’s Office announced last Friday that it will begin an investigation against opposition leader María Corina Machado for supporting US regulations that prohibit their administrations from hiring people linked to the “illegitimate Government of Nicolás Maduro.”
