MADRID 29 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –
This Friday, the Russian authorities ruled out any type of interference in the presidential elections held in Romania, which against all odds resulted in the victory of the far-right candidate Calin Georgescu, close to Moscow.
Kremlim spokesman Dimitri Peskov has once again pointed out that the results of the elections in Romania have no relation to Russian policies and has insisted that the country “is not in the habit of intervening in electoral processes” in third countries.
In this sense, he has asserted that these types of accusations are “unfounded” and has stated that, following the trend of staying on the sidelines, “now it was not going to be different in the case of Romania.” “Any accusation of this type has no basis and is only a way of imitating the general trend on the part of Western countries on this matter,” he said in statements reported by the Russian news agency Interfax.
The first round of the elections in Romania ended with the victory of Georgescu, who won 22.9 percent of the votes against the conservative candidate Elena Lasconi, who obtained 19.1 percent of the support, which which has left the current prime minister, the social democrat Marcel Ciolacu, out of the second round of elections, which will take place on December 8, by just about 2,000 votes difference.
However, the results led other candidates, such as Sebastian Constantin Popescu, of the New Romania Party, and Cristian Terhes, of the Romanian National Conservative Party, to submit requests to the Constitutional Court for a recount of the votes.
Subsequently, the court has accepted these petitions for processing, which is why it has ordered the recount of the 9.4 million votes cast during the first round of the presidential elections due to accusations of irregularities.
Popescu presented a brief on Wednesday in which he questioned the financing of Georgescu’s campaign, who had presented a report that reflected minimal spending thanks to the use of social networks, especially TikTok, to get his message to the majority of the population. population.
