The president of the Verkhovna Rada – Parliament of Ukraine – Ruslan Stefanchuk, denounced this Thursday that the Russian attack registered the day before in the center of the Ukrainian capital, kyiv, and which killed two people has also caused damage to the facilities of the Lower House.

“The blast wave also damaged nearby buildings, including the administrative facilities of the Ukrainian Parliament, where the committees and departments of the secretariat of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine are located. Yesterday, specialized services arrived at the scene to document the consequences of this barbaric attack “The damage is currently being assessed,” he explained.

Stefanchuk explained that, “despite the destruction, the relevant departments of the Verkhovna Rada are working tirelessly to quickly address the consequences of the attack and ensure the uninterrupted functioning of the Ukrainian Parliament and its bodies.”

Likewise, he urged deputies to “condemn the criminal actions of the aggressor state, to strengthen parliamentary support for Ukraine and to continue contributing” to a “shared victory.” In addition, he took the opportunity to convey his “deepest condolences” to the loved ones of the two fatal victims of the aforementioned attack.

During New Year’s Day, the Russian Armed Forces launched an attack on the Ukrainian capital that left two dead and six wounded. Later, the authorities identified the deceased as two prominent scientists: neurobiologist Igor Zima and doctor in biological sciences Olesia Sokur, a couple who worked at the Taras Shevchenko National University.
